At my first job, I had to write code to make our applications compatible with NT 4.0...

Can you make anything compatible with NT4? If you could, I'd switch to NT4 right now in a heartbeat.

meh, life in the big city.
all the corporate systems here have the security turned to eleven.. its so tight its crossed over into retarded.
my android phone has a BIOMETRIC reader on it (HTC one-max) ... the exchange server security disables it and forces me to use a 4 digit pin to open my phone... derp. pick the easiest 4 number code one can hit in the dark at 4 am when Asia has a crisis and you got my code.
the BIOMETRIC reader on my laptop is disabled for Allah knows what reason.
dont know whats tighter than fingerprint rec.. scrotal scan? ..." oh crap i got an email.. shoves phone down pants..."
FYI, The TASER corporate bldg has one of those rotating vault entrys with retinal scanners. effing scary.

I was a Certified Microsoft Professional in NT. I think I'd rather stick to Server 2012 even if it does have a stupid Windows 8-like UI.

Is that NT 3.5? I've never had the misfortune. Then again, it was probably preferable to 9.x in many ways. My first NT OS was Windows 2000, but I later played around with NT4. Fun times...

NT 3.x came out before 95 did. NT4 was released in 96 and adopted the 95 GUI.

Server 2012 has a Windows 8 style GUI? That I did not know.
![]() 07/23/2014 at 21:54 |

Yes it does. It doesn't make any damn sense to have a touch style UI on a server but I'm sure some marketing dweeb insisted on it for "branding" purposes. I've gotten pretty used to it now and can get around but it still makes no sense.

I noticed that the new Azure portal is the same - and it's a website. It hides half the functionality that's needed under a series of tiles. There's definitely no point to it, other than branding.

Fingerprint readers are nothing but fucking placebo. Especially the ones on consumer electronics like phones, tablets and laptops. A photograph of your fingerprint would be enough to unlock it.

Fucking Group Policies. I still have to do this on the Windows 7 machines at work.

Not really, no... Can't even make those same applications in their current state compatible with NT.
